Exploring Raw Wool for Hand Spinners 25.8.20

Exploring Raw Wool for Hand Spinners

25th August 2020 7pm - 9pm

Due to the requirement of posting raw fleece, this workshop is for UK based participants only.

This online workshop is aimed at those who have already started their hand spinning  journey, on either a spinning wheel or drop spindle, and are interested in working with wool from a raw state.

Rainy Williamson shares her knowledge and experience of raw wool from many years of working with wool and keeping her own sheep.

Prior to the start of the online workshop you will be sent a range of six British sheep fleece samples to be referenced during the workshop. No preparation of the fleece is required.

Topics discussed will include:

General characteristics of wool

Identifying breed differences and characteristics

Cleaning and storing

Sourcing and identifying a sound fleece

Environmental impact

Economic impact

Selecting the appropriate fleece for yarn design

The session is carried out online via Zoom, so no travelling, worrying about the weather or social distancing issues. An email link will be sent to you shortly before the workshop starts. You will need internet access along with a computer with a microphone and camera.
